This all starts with the moon, Once upon a time a single drop of moonlight hit earth and from that came a beautiful white flower that could heal anything and everything. Moonflower legend (the one at the beginning of the movie) Ok so technically Varian is rapunzel and Hugo is Eugene but instead of the sunstone being good like the sun flower it’s like the actual sun and hurts people while the moonflower unlike the moonstone heals.
When there journey starts it’s shown Varian is connected to the moon flower the thing that healed his mother but Hugo is connected to the sunstone a gem that burns all. Hugo was the one who found Varian in the tower and bright him back to the kingdom.
This is technically a swap au with a little extra, Varian was a lost prince his sister being rapunzel of course.
